Hi !
My name is Josée Allard and I was born in Powell River, BC in July of 1981. At age twelve I learned to play Hotel California on the guitar in one day, and man my fingers were killing me! But, I fell in love with playing music and discovered that this was my passion.
Like most songwriters, I sang at every opportunity people would listen, from school choirs to open mikes. I wrote about love, friendship and world peace. There was nothing sad to write about until my grandma died, that’s when real life started to sink in and I started to grow up.
I recorded songs every chance I got, mostly demos then finally released a self-titled EP in 2004. I performed up and down the west coast of BC and WA State. During this time I met many musicians and experimented with other bands. The most fun I had was playing bass in SOL, a Latin/rock band from Anacortes, WA. Even though there was a lot of drama and too much drinking, it was nice to take a back seat and not be in the limelight for once.
In 2008 I released my first French album “La Sirène”. This was a highlight in my career because it was nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award. However, the year leading up to the nomination was really tough since I had been diagnosed with Melanoma. I remember being in the studio and thinking “God, today I get my test results, this is the scariest day of my life. But there is no where else I would rather be than in this sound booth.” The biggest thing I learned from that experience was that if I was going to die, I was ok with it because I had lived every day to the fullest and had no regrets. So, heck yeah I am proud to say I got married at 20, and heck yeah, I moved to the U.S. right after 9-11 when Bush was president, and yeah I’m still not selling thousands of records but I’m happy!
As I write this short bio from my office, Charlie is kicking me, letting mommy and daddy know that he can’t wait to make his way into this world. Life is full of surprises, good and bad, it’s how you deal with it that determines the true outcome. Music is the one thing that has always helped me move forward and I feel blessed to have found it early on in life!
