"I wrote 'How'd you know' when I first moved to the states. It’s my favorite song because it describes how two people fall in love when they least expect it, just like finding something the moment you stop looking!"
Josée, pronounced "Jo-zay" is very passionate and likes to live for every moment. The songs she writes reflect emotions of love...love for oneself and love for others. She feels strongly about the dangers of social pressure, especially today, where young girls starve to be thin and people care more about their status than they do about the environment. Everyone deserves to be happy, and that message is conveyed through Josée's catchy, melodic and even breathtaking, songs. If you're not already listening to her music, you would notice how mature and powerful her voice is. Yet it softly blends in perfect harmony with her guitar. Her style is pop-folk-ish with an occasional stir of dance and ethnic beats. Sometimes she likes to throw in a heavier rhythm section giving you the illusion the song is playing on an alternative radio station. Along the lines of mainstream artists Jewel, Dido and Avril Lavinge, Josée is an upcoming artist able to stand her own and ready to share her musical endeavors with the rest of the world.
Josée was born in beautiful Powell River, BC, Canada, on July 28th, 1981. At the age of 13, she moved to Victoria where she attended l'Ecole Brodeur, the only French school in BC. Always keeping an open mind, Josée embraced every opportunity that came her way. She took acting courses and explored her talents. She became lead singer of the high school pop band "Les Générations", giving her the chance to tour BC. During that time she also competed in "Le Gala", a national French singing competition, where she won "Best Singer" in her province and the "Public's Choice Award". Two years later, she participated as a singer-songwriter, a first for Josée and her audience. Again, she stole their hearts and won their votes! Josée has gained a lot of exposure playing open stage nights from Victoria to Bellingham and festivals such as "Sea Fair" and "Folk Fest", the latter of international recognition. In the fall of 2002 Josée played her first solo concert, bringing in 100 people, during the "Coup de Coeur" festival in Vancouver, BC. This recent summer of 2003 she opened for "Diane Dufresne", an internationally acclaimed artist from Québec, for the "Festival D'Ete", where they closed down 7th Street at Granville in Vancouver to accommodate 1000 spectators.
One of Josée's latest achievements in October 2003 was making the top three for Pacific Idol at the Mount Baker Theater, in Bellingham, WA. The crowd loved her performance, which included her newest song "Sunshine" and her fan's most requested song "Let Be". Josée recently wrote and recorded "Sassy Cat" and "Are you ready for me?" for a compilation children's CD titled "Sassy Cat" to benefit the Whatcom Mother Baby Center.
Composing and writing a song is one of Josée's favorite pass-times, second to performing! And why would you want to go see Josée live? Well, maybe you heard from someone that she was really good, and you have to find out for yourself...Or, you're in the mood for something entertaining and want to be swept away. Some say it's like drinking from the fountain of youth because she has so much energy on stage. Others say her songs are mesmerizing, they get lost in the moment. The new band has a fresh, groovy, and captivating sound. You'll want them to play all night long!!
The self-titled EP shows off Josée's distinctive pop-influenced vocal style, unique lyrics and incredible music that binds you with each song! Yusuf will make your knees weak with his melodic guitar hooks in "How'd you know", and you heart will automatically beat along with Nick Meyer in "Sunshine". John Schneider takes you away in "Let Be" using deep, colorful notes that vibrate your soul. "Look at Cameron now" is an upbeat song about a high school geek that's become successful and shocks his old classmates at their 10th year reunion. And last but not least is "Make Believe", a romantic ballad and a tearjerker, the first song Josée ever wrote.
Now 22 years of age, Josée lives for love and music, and has found her soul mate. "Following your instincts is the key to love and happiness" Josée says. "Let your heart lead the way".
